Surprise rise in German exports

Germany’s trade surplus widened more than expected in February due to a unexpected rise in exports.

Adjusted for seasonal factors, exports rose 5.1 percent on the month to 71.3 billion euros.

There was also a surprise increase in imports, they were up 0.2 percent at 59.2 billion euros

The figures boosted hopes that Europe’s largest economy is on the path to recovery.
