Former insurgents targeted in deadly strike

Gunmen disguised as US soldiers are believed to have killed at least 24 people in an attack on a Sunni Muslim village near Baghdad.

It is reported the gunmen wore US-style uniforms, sunglasses and spoke some English.

Those killed were all shot execution-style but up to seven others tied up were left alive.

The area surrounding the site was immediately sealed off as police made dozens of arrests.

Authorities say some of the victims were Iraqi security force members and others of the Sahwa movement, or the “Sons of Iraq.”

The group is made up of Sunni former insurgents who changed sides to fight al-Qaeda militants and are credited with helping turn the tide of the Iraq war
