Terrified passengers see A380 tyres explode

Passengers have endured a terrifying ordeal after their plane damaged two tyres on landing in Sydney.

None of the 244 people on board the Airbus A380 flown by Qantas were hurt during the incident.

Amateur video of the inflight entertainment screen showed a shower of sparks around the wing:“We were watching, actually, as we landed, on the external camera. You can actually hear a bit of a thump as we landed. It was fairly evident that the tyre had gone. But you could actually see the sparks and the smoke on the external camera,” said one passenger.

On inspection, it was found two tyres under the left wing had been crushed on landing – engineers are working to pinpoint the cause.

Some media reports claimed the tyres had exploded.
