The recovery in the airline industry has taken off, with further increases in passenger numbers and freight traffic.

The association representing the industry, IATA, said passenger planes are flying with fewer empty seats as demand in February was up 9.5 per cent on a year earlier.

Demand for cargo grew by 26.5 per cent.

IATA reckons that within two or three months the industry will have recovered to pre-recession levels.
