Japanese shoppers loosen their purse strings

The tills in Japan’s high-street shops have been ringing louder and longer than they have for 13 years.

Retail sales figures in the year to February were up 4.2 per cent on the year before according to official statistics, boosted by government incentives to get consumers spending again.

Some analysts though are warning of a dip as the stimulus measures are withdrawn.
