Rickshaw bomber kills 10 in Pakistan attack

A suicide bomber has killed at least ten people and injured several others at a security checkpoint Pakistan’s Swat Valley. Police say the bomber approached a government building near Mingora in a rickshaw and blew himself up when he was stopped. Two soldiers and three policemen are reported to be among the dead.

It was the latest in a series of attacks over the past week, and followed threats by the Taliban to use suicide bombers to retaliate after an offensive by the Pakistani military.

The Swat Valley had been largely peaceful since the army launched a major push against militants last year.

In the southern city of Lahore funerals have been taking place after yesterday’s double suicide attack that killed 45 people. The latest wave of violence will alarm the government and raise fresh questions about Pakistan’s stability.
