Voting is over and counting has begun in Iraq’s election. Experts say the election is only the first step and have warned it could take months of negotiations for a government to be formed.
With around 6000 candidates chasing 325 seats, even counting the votes could take some time:
“Initial results will be posted on the polling station doors as and when they come through but the definitive results will take much longer,” said a spokesman for the Iraqi election commission.
500 international observers have joined the 250 thousand national monitors to ensure the poll ran smoothly.
