Ukraine’s beleaguered Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has announced she is to take holiday leave, after her governing coalition was ousted by a vote of no confidence.
It is reported the first Deputy Prime Minister will step in.
Before today’s vote, Tymoshenko hinted she would not stay on as caretaker:
“If today’s vote calls for the resignation of the government then we will leave office immediately.” she told parliament.
Ukraine’s political landscape has changed completely since Tymoshenko was defeated by pro-Russian candidate Viktor Yanukovich in a presidential run-off vote a month ago and the governing coalition collapsed yesterday.
Yanukovich’s Regions Party will now try to form its own government within 60 days or face a possible snap election.
