The wave of arrests targeting Turkey’s military over an alleged coup plot is not over yet – with reports a further 18 officers have been taken into custody.
Dozens within the secular armed forces have been detained this week amid claims of an attempt to bring down the Islamist-rooted government.
According to Turkish media, 17 more active officers and one retired colleague were arrested today during an operation in 13 cities nationwide.
It is a clear sign the showdown has not been resolved despite crisis talks between Turkey’s President, Prime Minister and the head of the military. The ruling AK Party rejects critics’ claims that it harbours a hidden Islamist agenda.
