Ukraine’s former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich has been sworn in as the country’s President.

Yanukovich won a runoff vote against rival Yulia Tymoshenko, the current Prime Minister, on February 7.

She has denounced his victory as fraudulent.

The 59-year old is expected to manoeuvre his country back into line with its old Soviet master, Russia.

But he’s to visit Brussels on Monday to show he’s also in favour of developing ties with Europe.

In his oath of office, Yanukovich swore to defend the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.
