Several dozen Libyan police officers have surrounded the Swiss embassy in Tripoli after issuing an ultimatum for Switzerland to hand over two of its nationals who have been sheltering there.
Swiss businessman Max Goeldi has been convicted of immigration offences. The other Swiss national Rachid Hamdani is reported to have left the embassy. He is said to have been driven away by Libyan officials.
The Libyan authorities want Goeldi to serve a four-month prison sentence.
A Libyan news agency is saying Rachid Hamdani, would be free to go home if Switzerland complied with the ultimatum. Hamdani was convicted of the same offences as Goeldi but his sentence was overturned on appeal.
