A Haitian judge has released eight of the 10 American missionaries who had been held in a Port-au Prince jail for nearly three weeks on kidnapping charges. But two others remain in custody for more questioning.
Although the charges still stand pending further investigation, the eight were allowed to go as there was no evidence of criminal intent. The two remaining missionaries are to be asked about previous trips to Haiti.
The missionaries were arrested after trying to take 33 Haitian children out of the country without proper documentation after the recent devastating earthquake. All 10 have always denied any wrongdoing and say they were just trying to help.
