Passenger car sales in EU member states rose 12.9 percent in January.
The European carmakers’ association said government scrapping incentive schemes had boosted demand compared with the same month last year.
But carmakers are worried that 2010 will be tough, with some scrapping schemes finished and others due to run out soon.
Many forecast sales will be down around 10 percent this year.
