Lebanon remembers its slain prime minister

Lebanon marks the fifth anniversary of the murder of former prime minister, Rafik al-Hariri.

The son of the slain leader Saad al-Hariri, the current prime minister, joined others to honour his fathers memory.

It comes at time of improved relations between Lebanon and Syria, despite Hariri publicly accusing Damascus of engineering his fathers death.

Syria denies involvement.

Saad al-Hariri spoke of the improved ties with Syria.

“I am keen on keeping this window open and on building a new era in Lebanese/Syrian relations, from one sovereign, free and independent state to another.”

Thousands gathered in Beirut to support Hariri family.

Rafik Hariri was killed along with 21 others when a massive truck bomb exploded as Hariri’s convey passed by along Beirut’s seafront.
