As the snow fell, the 60th edition of the Berlin Film Festival got underway, with 26 movies in competition, including 18 world premieres.

In a nod to its roots as an international platform for Asian movies the Berlinale opened with the world premiere of a Chinese film Tuan Yuan or Apart Together.

One of the highlights of the Berlinale was the screening of Roman Polanski’s latest film The Ghost Writer, starring Ewan ManGregor and Pierce Brosnan, even though its director remained under house arrest in Switzerland.

Another highly anticpated movie is Martin Scorcese’s Shutter Island, which is not in competition, starring Leonardo di Caprio.
