Shuttle crew adds final piece to space station

The crew of the space shuttle Endeavour have connected the final module onto the International Space Station, completing more than a decade of construction on the space outpost.

The station, a project involving sixteen nations, has been assembled 354 kilometres above the earth.

The final piece of the space jigsaw was built in Italy and called Tranquility and will act as living quarters, housing an oxygen generator and water recycling system.

Four more missions remain to add the finishing touches to the ISS before NASA retires its shuttle fleet at the end of the year.
