Berlin Film Festival begins

The 60th Berlin Film Festival has officially opened in the German capital with jury member and Hollywood star Renee Zellweger among the distinguished guests at the star-studded ceremony.

The Chinese premiere ‘Apart Together’ kicked off 10 days of film and the movie’s cast was in attendance for the inauguration. One person who will not be there is director Roman Polanski. He is still under house arrest in Switzerland. However, the Polish-French filmmaker’s latest movie ‘The Ghost Writer’ is expected to dominate this year.

There was a birthday tribute from South Africa, itself celebrating the 20th anniversary of former president Nelson Mandela’s release from prison.

‘Apart Together’, directed by Wang Quan’an, tells the moving story of an elderly couple reunited decades after being forced apart by civil war.
