Alcatel-Lucent sales and profit drop

Alcatel-Lucent continues to be buffeted by the tough market for telecommunications exchange equipment.

Its revenue in the fourth-quarter fell nearly 20 percent from a year earlier; it posted a wider-than-forecast net loss of 524 million euros and cut its operating profit margin target for this year.

The French-American group’s shares fell sharply.
