Seven year old Charlie Simpson has raised a staggering 150,000 euros for the survivors of the earthquake which devastated the Caribbean nation – and all with the simple idea of a sponsored bike ride round his local park.
The little boy told reporters that he had seen the pictures on TV and thought it was really sad and just wanted to do something.
Charlie’s mother helped him make a sponsorship form for an eight-kilometre cycle ride. That was then posted on the web.
They sent it to friends and families who in turn sent to others. The original target was just to raise the equivalent of 570 euros.
By the time the young lad had crossed the finish line the total sponsorship money was thousands more than they’d hoped for.
Charlie is donating the money to UNICEF.
