Three deadly attacks on Baghdad hotels

world news

| |

Three well-known Baghdad hotels have been targeted in deadly bomb attacks.

Authorities say the number of people killed in the simultaneous attacks currently stands at 36, but the number is expected to rise.

At least 70 other people have been wounded in the explosions.

The hotels targeted were the Ishtar Sheraton, the Babylon and the al-Hamra hotels.

Security experts say the attacks end a six-week lull in coordinated assaults on the Iraqi capital.

The explosions come ahead of national elections in March, and amid continuing concern about security.
