Stars from stage, screen and music have come together to raise funds for Haiti.
The “Hope for Haiti Now” celebrity telethon reached out across America as all four leading US networks carried the event, which was organised by actor George Clooney.
Clooney said he had not slept for three days trying to get the show on the road: “This is the opportunity to help a neighbour in need, in desperate need and do it with a swiftness, expertise, generosity and love that resides in the best of who we are.”
Clooney was joined in the fundraising event by Samuel L Jackson, who said: “We want you to give, so we can all come together and help Haiti rise from the ruins and when you do, we want you to know that 100 per cent of your donations will go directly to organisations that are on the ground right now.”
Among those taking part include Beyonce, Shakira, Bono, Bill Clinton and Bruce Springsteen.
