It has been a triumphant night for US director James Cameron and his 3D blockbuster ‘Avatar’ at this year’s Golden Globes in Los Angeles. In addition to best director, the sci-fi action adventure scooped five awards, including best film.
The globes are often seen as a precursor to the Oscars and it was also a good night for Hollywood veteran Jeff Bridges. He won the top actor prize for his performance as a down-and-out country singer in ‘Crazy Heart.’
Sandra Bullock picked up best actress in a drama for her role in the football movie ‘‘The Blind Side,’‘ while Meryl Streep took best actress in a comedy for cooking film ‘‘Julie and Julia.’‘
Elsewhere Robert Downey Jr also won a Globe in the male comedy category for his turn as super sleuth in Sherlock Holmes. The best foreign language movie went to Germany’s ‘‘The White Ribbon’‘ directed by Michael Haneke.
