SNCF goes off the rails


French rail monopoly SNCF is to cut 1400 jobs this year and cut services on unprofitable lines, like the Paris-Arras or Lille-Strasbourg services. The SNCF presents its 2010 budget on Wednesday and is faced with collapsing profit margins on its high speed train network, which are down to just over 10 percent. Just two years ago margins were over 20 percent.
