Militants attack Afghan capital

Some two dozen suspected Taliban militants, some wearing suicide vests, have attacked several locations in Kabul in a commando-style operation against government targets in Afghanistan.

Gunfire and loud explosions have been heard across the capital with reports of chaotic scenes.

According to one source at least 3 people have been killed and up to 30 insurgents have besieged a store opposite the justice ministry near to the presidential palace.

Nato say they are assisting the Afghan forces in securing the area near the city’s Central Bank after a reported explosion.

It is the worst attack on the city in almost a year and happened as some of President Hamid Karzai’s cabinet members were being sworn in.
