French inflation higher than expected

Inflation in France was up by more than economists has forecast in December.

The National statistics office INSEE said consumer prices rose by 0.3 percent month-on-month and by one percent compared to December 2008.

The new data has increased worries that inflation could cause people to cut their spending in the euro zone’s second-largest economy in the near future.
