The parents of British girl Madeleine McCann are back in Portugal, to face the former detective who questioned their account of the little girl’s disappearance.
Gerry and Kate McCann have launched libel proceedings against Goncalo Amaral, claiming his book, “Maddie: The Truth of the Lie,” defames them.
A Portuguese court has halted sales of the book, which claims Madeleine is dead. The ex-policeman wants the ban overturned.
Seeking 1.2 million euros in damages, the McCanns were formerly named official suspects in the inquiry, once headed by Amaral. This was later lifted.
Madeleine was nearly four when she went missing from her parents’ holiday apartment in the Algarve in May 2007. The couple, who were dining at a nearby restaurant, believe she was abducted. Their search for her goes on.
