Togo’s football team arrived home from Angola overnight after Friday’s deadly ambush of their team bus.
Obviously still shocked by events, the players were met by Togo’s prime minister and by their own families.
Three people died including the squad’s assistant coach and press officer, when gunmen, thought to have been separatist rebels, opened fire on the team bus as it travelled through Angola’s Cabinda enclave.
Seven people were wounded including the reserve goalkeeper. The bodies of those who died were brought home with the team.
Although Togo’s government has called for three days of mourning, it has been reported that the squad may later return to Angola which is hosting The Africa Cup of Nations.
