British Foreign Secretary David Miliband has said stability in Pakistan is vital to achieving peace and security in Afghanistan.
Miliband was speaking in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on a trip to strengthen ties between Britain and Pakistan.
“Pakistan is a vital partner in finding solutions and progress in Afghanistan, and that’s why I’m here. Stability, security, prosperity in Afghanistan is dependent on some part on security, prosperity, stability in Pakistan,” he said.
The border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan, particularly Waziristan, is seen as key battleground in the fight against Taliban extremists.
Miliband’s visit came as a video, alleged to be that of a suicide bomber who blew up seven CIA agents in December, was released. The clip shows the Jordanian double agent alongside a Taliban chief.
The authenticity of the footage has yet to be verified but if it is genuine it arguably points to huge intelligence failures for the US in the region.
