France 'to tax Internet ads'

France could start taxing Internet advertising revenue from online companies such as Google.

That proposal, has reportedly been suggested in a government-commissioned survey.

The newspaper Liberation says the money raised by such a tax would be used to support creative industries that have been hit by the digital revolution.

The tax would also apply to other operators such as MSN and Yahoo.

Google responded by saying it does not believe an additional tax on Internet advertising is the way forward.
