Russian leadership duo have fun in the snow

Russia’s president and prime minister leadership duo have been spending the holidays in the snow at one of the venues for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

But if the West wonders who is running Russia, so too did one little boy who asked Dmitry Medvedev “where is the president?” – the president laughed good naturedly.

The Russian leader later wished everyone “health, strength and happiness” and said “let all the problems be left back in 2009”.

Last year Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin spent the New Year break at the same resort. The Russian government plans to spend more than a trillion roubles – 23 billion euros – to prepare for the Sochi Winter Games.

While the local economy may welcome the cash injection and the politicians bringing the goodtimes, Medvedev’s own approval rating took a dive. The leader was seen riding a snow mobile without a helmet, unlike his prime minister.
