Europe continues to be hit by freezing temperatures and severe snow.
In Germany Frankfurt Airport shutdown on Monday evening as heavy snowfall resulted in the cancellation of some 90 take-offs and landings. As many as 8,000 people had there Christmas travel plans scuppered.
One passenger was far from happy:
“They have not taken care of pregnant women, the elderly and women with children and there wasn’t enough beds. People had to sleep on the floor and Lufthansa didn’t really help us.”
Its a similar tale in Italy with airports struggling with the conditions, Milan Malpensa closed for most of the morning along with airports in Genoa and Bologna.
Train services and roads have also suffered as a result of the weather.
In Britain big snowfalls caused traffic chaos as cars crawled at a snails pace in some parts of the country.
Freezing rain also fell turning roads into ice rinks making driving conditions extremely dangerous.
However, forecasters suggest that the extreme weather conditions are due to lift in time for Christmas.
