Eurostar back on track

Eurostar’s wheels are turning again.
The cross-channel trains re-started a limited service today when a Eurostar train left the Gare du Nord station in Paris with destination London.

It was the first sign that the Channel Tunnel transport company had overcome the technical problems that ground its trains to a halt last Friday.

The blame is being put on snow and the different temperatures outside and inside the tunnel that caused the snow to melt and disrupt electric circuits.

However, the French government has expressed doubt that the winter cold spell was the sole reason for the calamity.
Since Friday the situation for thousands of passengers has been chaotic. Many of them expressing their fury at the breakdown of the train service.

“It’s a big mess” one disillusioned French passenger said.

Normally, the Eurostar trains transport some 40,000 passengers a day between London and the European mainland. But not on this white Christmas.
