Berlusconi to leave hospital as security is tightened

Italy’s injured premier Silvio Berlusconi is expected to leave hospital later today after Sunday’s attack left him with a broken nose.

The 73-year-old is said to be recovering slowing but is still suffering facial discomfort and recurrent pain after the assault aggravated a dormant neck problem.

Repercussions from the incident continue with the government reportedly planning to beef up security surrounding politicians in general.

In his first message to supporters since entering hospital, Berlusconi asked via his party’s web site for everyone to stay calm and that love always wins over jealousy and envy.

After much media debate over whether a sustained campaign of criticism had sparked the attack, the government is to blackout “hate Berlusconi” sites on the internet.
