Disgraced golfer Tiger Woods has confessed to cheating on his wife and says he is taking a break from the sport to repair his shattered marriage.
On his website, Woods acknowledged the pain he has caused his family and begged for forgiveness.
“I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children,” he wrote.
He went on to announce an indefinite hiatus – news that was welcomed by at least one golf fan. Tammy Marcotte said: “With the actions that he’s displayed and everything that’s in the media, it’s really disgusting and what’s happening with him in his life. He definitely needs to step back and work on that and put his family back together – if she will take him back.”
Her husband Donald Marcotte said: “I’ll continue to watch the PGA and I hope he comes back, you know, one day, or whenever he feels like playing again. I hope he’s back in the limelight.”
A string of young women have come forward claiming to have had affairs with Woods and his wife Elin is reported to have walked out following a mystery car crash outside his Florida home two weeks ago.
One piece of good news for Woods, his main sponsors Nike say they will stand by their man.
