Chris Bodkin is 20 years old. He studying at Ithaca College in New York.
He wants to know whether Copenhagen will produce a meaningful international treaty.
Jean Pascal van Ypersele is a climotologist and Vice-Chair of the IPCC.
“The climate’s changing in a visible way, I believe everyone is well aware of it so I believe it is possible to make an agreement. What is missing is is the political will, but I think that is coming too so I am very optimistic. I think we will have an agreement. It is necessary to look at reducing emissions beyond 2012, but it is also essential to broaden the number of the countries which act, since the emerging economies are emitting a lot of greenhouse gases. It is also necessary to help developing countries recognise and adapt to the effects of climate change. For all these reasons there has to be an agreement. This is why the meeting in Copenhagen is so important.”
