Iranian security forces have clashed in Tehran with protesters seeking to renew their challenge to the country’s elite six months after a disputed presidential poll.

Supporters had reportedly gathered, along with defeated presidential candidate Mirhossein Mousavi, to mark the killing of three students killed during the rule of the shah. Witnesses say a least two women were arrested and authorities shut down the city’s mobile phone network. The aftermath of President Mahmound Ahmadinejad’s re-election in June, sparked the worst unrest in Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution.
