Russia mourns nightclub fire deaths

The Russian President has said a fire at a nightclub that killed more than 100 revellers is nothing less than a crime.

They were celebrating in Perm, about 1,100 kilometres east of Moscow. A firework ignited the wicker covering on the ceiling and walls, sparking a panicked stampede as the room filled with toxic smoke. Those who made it out with their lives were coated in soot. All around them the bodies of the dead and wounded littered the pavement in front of the club. Medical staff say half of the 130 wounded were in a serious condition, suffering the effects of breathing in the toxic fumes.
