Dozens die in Pakistan mosque attack

At least 39 people have died and 40 others have been wounded in an attack on a mosque in Pakistan. Reports suggest two suicide bombers blew themselves up, one after the other, inside the mosque, causing the roof to collapse. Then there was a series of explosions.

The mosque in Rawalpindi is home to several defence and intelligence offices and near the country’s military headquarters. Nineteen people were killed in an army base attack in Rawalpindi in October. The Pakistani security forces have been targeted in a spate of recent attacks. Militant groups have been hitting security targets inside Pakistan as the army pursues an offensive against militants in South Waziristan. The country is facing increasing pressure from the US to help in the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan and root out Islamist militants operating along border areas
