Around 30 people have died and many more are still missing after an overcrowded ferry sank in Bangladesh.
1,500 passengers were aboard, 3 times the boat’s capacity, traveling home for the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival.
The tragedy happened in the Tetulia river some 300 km south of the city of Dhaka.
The ferry went over as it leaned to one side, as passengers disembarked at the terminal.
Authorities say passengers had ignored warnings and boarded the crowded ferry to get home ahead of the festival.
Hundreds of people used to die every year in ferry accidents in Bangladesh, but no major ferry disasters have occurred in the past two years after stricter enforcement of safety rules.
