One Turkish family has reasons to love their neighbours this weekend.
Just seconds before their house disintegrated before their eyes, a friend rang to tell them to get out fast, or they too would have been victims of atrocious weather that has hit Turkey. Others were not so lucky. Two people died in another nearby house after a giant boulder dislodged by torrential rain crashed into it. At least another two people died in separate incidents along the Black sea coast, which often suffers from landslides when subjected to heavy rain. At altitude, it has been snow. A bus travelling from Baybut to Erzurum was stuck in an avalanche for 39 hours before rescuers were able to get to it and save 18 students, just before the search was abandoned. A number of rivers have burst their banks adding flooding to the problems rescue workers have to deal with.
