Violent clashes have taken place between police and supporters of the English Defence League in the northern English city of Leeds.
The far-right group held the rally as a counter demonstration to an earlier march by the Unite Against Fascism organisation. The clashes took place as police attempted to keep the supporters of the English Defence League penned into an area around the City Square. Five people were arrested. The EDL say they are campaigning against Islamic extremists. Their opponents accuse them of having a racist agenda. Similar clashes have taken place in Manchester and Birmingham.
