Erdogan backs Iran over nuclear talks

The Turkish prime minister has praised Iran for what he called its “positive attitude” to nuclear talks, fuelling Western concerns about warming relations between Ankara and Tehran.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan made the comment during a visit to Iran, where he was welcomed warmly by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He was quoted as describing Iran’s nuclear progamme as an “energy project with peaceful, humanitarian purposes.” Western powers fear Tehran is trying to develop an atomic arsenal and are engaged in fragile talks with the Islamic Republic on the issue.
