Prosecution concludes case in Clearstream trial

The prosecution is demanding an 18-month suspended prison term and a 45,000 euro fine in the trial of former French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin.

The case, which involves claims of a smear campaign against President Nicolas Sarkozy, has become known as “the Clearstream affair”. Villepin denies the accusations against him. Deliberations on a verdict in the month-long trial are expected to begin on Friday after final arguments from the defence team.
