The abortion reform approved by the Spanish Cabinet last month will make its journey through Parliament in November.Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapetero’s minority government is expected to get the bill through with a coalition of votes from left-wing parties. José Blanco, Spanish Socialist Party deputy leader and Development Minister said: “When Aznar was leading the Government, there were more than 500,000 abortions and neither the Government, nor the right-wing organisations reacted. This is a hypocrisy and a disgrace. This law doesn’t encourage anybody. The aim is just to regulate”. Hypocrisy is an element that women’s groups are focusing on asking people in a pro-choice campaign video whether they know women who’ve had abortions. As they answer yes, they are then asked whether they really think these woman should go to prison.
