After all the hype and the tradegy, Terry Gillam’s latest fantasy finally hits the screen this autumn.
The film stars Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell because Heath Ledger died mid-shoot, leaving his well-wishers bereft and the project high and dry. Reviewers however agree that the project has perhaps benefitted from the resulting shared role and even the director says that he thinks the result is “seamless”. The story is the deal-with-the-devil tale of a theatrial empressario who sells his soul to the devil in return for eternal life and then in a subsequent deal trades immortality for youth with his children thrown into the bargain as soon as they reach 16 years old. Lily Cole, jumping from model to actress gives a strong performance as does beloved veteran star Christopher Pummer as Dr Parnassus. Above all however, this is a Terry Gillam production – sumptious, sprawling, serpentine and probably too OTT to swallow all in one viewing. You’ll need to see it several times before you really know what you think… For more information see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jU3AimFaz0 For the official site see:
