Pakistan has been shaken by a series of fatal attacks leaving scores dead. At least 39 people are reported to have died after strikes in Lahore and two explosions in the troubled north-west of the country.
In the city of Peshawar near the Afghan border, officials said a bomb killed one child and wounded nine other people. Today’s attacks cap a week of violence that has seen more than 100 people die and comes ahead of an expected military offensive against the Taliban in their strongholds in South Waziristan. In the north-western city of Kohat a suicide car bomber set off his explosives outside a police station with devastating consequences. At least 10 people perished. In Lahore, Pakistan’s second biggest city, three black-clad attackers reportedly blew themselves up and dozens of gunmen and officials were killed when militants attacked several police stations.
