Welsh rock band Lostprophets have just released the first single (“It’s Not the End of the World”) off their forthcoming album “The Betrayed”.
Ian Watkins, the lead singer of the band, isn’t exactly backwards when it comes to coming forwards about the new album. He says “We just wanted to kind of build expectation and really hype it up because I think the album stands up to it, you know. I didn’t want to just put it out, blah, blah, blah. I want people to be like, even if they don’t like us, listen to it just to try and prove us wrong and then they’ll be wrong. Wrong. They’ll be weeping tears and they won’t know if they’re tears of joy because the album’s so good or tears of despair and defeat because they thought it was going to be bad and they just lost.” The exact categorisation of Lostprophets’ musical contribution to the world of rock has eluded almost everyone. Says the ebullient Ian Watkins: “I don’t know, we’ve never bothered with labels. It’s just, like you say, people like to put you into certain categories. I think it’s just… Yeah, anybody who listens to the last albums and then this one, they’re still calling us like a new metal band. It’s just lazy. I think it’s just for people who haven’t actually heard us and their only reference point is 2001.” Lost Prophets will be releasing their album “The Betrayal” in January. Meantime this autumn there are various live dates planned. For more information see the band’s official site:
