There have been more clashes police and protesters in Istanbul, where global financial leaders have been meeting.
For the second day running Turkish police acted swiftly to break up demonstrations they say were turning violent. Hundreds of leftists and students were involved in the protests against the World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s summit. Some turned their anger on local banks, setting cash distributors alight with Molotov cocktails. At least 20 people were arrested. In addition to the economic crisis the conference is considering a new IMF loan to Turkey.
