Aer Lingus is to cut nearly 700 jobs and reduce salaries for higher paid staff.Trying to become more competitive, the Irish airline wants to reduce annual operating costs by 97 million euros by 2011. The news comes one day after loss making British Airways said it would cut the equivalent of 1,700 staff in the UK. BA said it needs to save money to ensure long term survival.
