Polanski in Swiss custody

Film director Roman Polanski has been taken into custody, according to organisers of the Zurich Film Festival. They claim Polanski was detained on his arrival in Switzerland. He was due to collect a lifetime achievement award at the festival.

The organisers say Polanski was arrested in relation to a US arrest warrant dating back to 1978. He had admitted unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl, but fled the US before sentencing. He has been unable to travel back there ever since. Now a citizen of France, Polanski has been trying to have the case thrown out.
